John Kolodziej, age 82 of Atkinson, NH formerly of Haverhill, died Saturday, December 13, 2008, at his residence.
Mr. Kolodziej was born in Haverhill on April 25, 1926, the son of the late Andrew S. and Anne M. (Sowick) Kolodziej of Poland. One of nine children, he was raised in Haverhill and educated in Haverhill schools.
He is a Veteran of World War II, having enlisted in the U.S. Navy in 1944 and serving for two years.
Upon returning to Haverhill he worked in local shoe manufacturing firms for many years. He was then employed by the Internal Revenue Service, Andover, for several years until his retirement.
He has been a resident of Atkinson, NH for many years.
Mr. Kolodziej was the devoted husband of the late Lena E. (DeFazio) Kolodziej, who died March 12, 2004.
He is survived by his sister, Louise B. Petrush and her husband Thomas of Mount Pleasant, SC; and several nieces and nephews. He was the brother of the late Joseph Koloshey, Sophie Manziak, Judith Small, Cecelia Colby, Valeska Andrews, Nellie Urbielonis, and Andrew Kolodziej.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, December 18, in the C. Frank Linnehan and Son Haverhill Funeral Home, 129 Kenoza Avenue, Haverhill at 10:00 a.m. Visiting hours will precede the funeral beginning at 9:00 a.m. Interment with Military Honors will follow in St. Patrick Cemetery, No. Broadway, Haverhill.
