Dunphy, Richard P., age 78 of Haverhill, died Wednesday evening, July 2, 2008 at the Hannah Duston Healthcare Center, Haverhill.
Mr. Dunphy was born in Brooklyn, NY on August 10, 1929, the son of the late Richard P. and Marie (Glantz) Dunphy. He attended Brooklyn schools, and was a graduate of Mepham High School, Bellmore, Long Island, NY, Class of 1948.
Mr. Dunphy is a Veteran of the Korean War having, having served for several years in the U.S. Army with the 780th Field Artillery Battalion, as well as with the U.S. Army Reserves. He was Honorably Discharged in 1957.
He has resided in Haverhill since 1953. Mr. Dunphy was employed by the U.S. Postal Service as a Clerk in the Haverhill Main Post Office for 37 years until his retirement in 1994. He was very proud of his accomplishment of completing his Associates Degree in Accounting, having graduated from Northern Essex Community College, Haverhill Campus in 1981. He was a member of Sacred Hearts Parish, Bradford; VFW Lorraine Post No. 29, Haverhill, former Post Adjutant; Bishop Minihan Council, No. 202, Knights of Columbus, former Grand Knight; Haverhill Day Care, served on the Executive Board and Past President; National Postal Clerks Union, Past Secretary; Retired Federal Employees Association; and volunteered with the Share Program, Haverhill.
He was the husband of the late Barbara A. (Smith) Dunphy, who died January 10, 1997. He is survived by his daughter Kathleen A. Urso and her husband Wayne R. Urso of Errol, NH; one grandson, James M. Urso of Derry, NH; several nieces and nephews; cousin Margaret M. Dunphy of Bellport, Long Island, NY; and sister in-law Lorraine Hill of Georgetown.
Funeral services will be held Monday morning, July 7, 2008 beginning in the C. Frank Linnehan and Son Bradford Funeral Home, 52 Salem Street, Bradford at 8:00 a.m. Funeral Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated in Sacred Hearts Church, 165 So. Main Street, Bradford, at 9:00 a.m. Interment with Military Honors will follow in St. James Cemetery, Primrose Street, Haverhill. Calling hours, Sunday, 2:00-4:00 and 6:00-8:00 p.m. Relatives and friends kindly invited.
