Obituary

Harold W. Tyning, Jr., 83, of Lawrence died on Thursday, July 8, 2010 at MI Nursing Center, Lawrence.

Mr. Tyning was born in Lawrence and raised in North Andover. He was a 1944 graduate of Johnson High School and lived in North Andover for 25 years before moving to Andover in 1952, and has lived in Lawrence since 1995. Before retirement in 1980, he worked as a letter carrier with The Andover Post Office.

He was a longtime member of The West Parish Church, Andover where he served as deacon and was founder of the popular ham and bean suppers and the annual corned beef supper at the church.

He was a member of the former Carvel Chapter of The Blind. He joined Cub Scouts on May 1, 1936 at St. Paul's Episcopal Church, North Andover. He was assistant scout master and scout master of Troop 77 at West Parish for many years as well as being active with other local troops.

His family members include his wife, Priscilla A. (Batchelder) Tyning of Lawrence; and his children, Beverly E. Smith of North Andover, Nancy I. Tyning and her husband, Richard Lawrence of San Diego, Gayle E. and her husband Greg LaCourse of Newmarket, N.H., and Harold W. Tyning, III of Lakeville, Mass. He leaves his grandchildren, William, Holly, Joel, Andy, Lea, Philip and Sarah; and his great-grandchildren, Audria, Kaitlyn, Jennifer, Michael, Grace, Haylee, Gavyn, Heather and Sophia.
