Obituary


Mr. Palmer Elbert Whitaker age 74, of 2542 Quaker Church Road died after an extending illness on Thursday, July 15, 2010. He was born in Surry County on February 6, 1936 to the late Elbert William and Ethel Wall Whitaker. Mr. Whitaker was retired having worked for many years at Bahnson Company, Freight Consolidation Service and Chemcraft Company. He was an avid outdoors person making a large garden and loved sharing with friends and neighbors. Palmer was of the Christian Faith and a faithful attendee of Old Siloam Church as long as his health allowed. He is survived by his wife Molly Reece Whitaker of the home; daughter and son-in-law, Jane Whitaker Marvin and husband Tony of Winston-Salem; one brother and sister-in-law, Thomas Whitaker and wife Cynthia of Siloam; sisters, Irene Whitaker and Bonnie Ashburn both of Siloam; a sister-in-law Emily Adcock and husband Emmett of Walnut-Cove; several nieces, nephews and cousins. Funeral Services will be held on Saturday, July 17, 2010 at Old Siloam Church off Hardy Road at 3:00 P.M. with Pastor Lem Sprinkle, Elder Jeff Whitaker and Wayne Hiatt officiating. The family will receive friends 2 hours prior to the service and other times at the home of his sister, Bonnie Ashburn, 113 Blaze Trail off Romie Brown Road in Siloam. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Mountain Valley Hospice and Palliative Care, 401 Technology Lane, Suite 200 Mount Airy, NC 27030 or to Old Siloam Church Building Fund, 189 Hardy Road, Siloam, NC 27047.
