Augusta, GA – Entered into rest Wednesday, July 14, 2010, Mr. Peter Herbert Alewine, 72, husband of Georgia Markert Alewine.
Mr. Alewine graduated from the Academy of Richmond County where he was a baseball standout during the fifties. He attended the University of Georgia. He briefly played pro ball for the Philadelphia Phillies. Mr. Alewine retired from the insurance business after 40 years. He loved his family, church, sports and the Atlanta Braves. He enjoyed a good meal and a well manicured yard.
Family members in addition to his wife include daughter: Patricia Tanner and husband Tony; son: Pete Alewine Jr. and wife Toni; grandchildren: Ben Tanner, Brian Tanner, Peter Alewine III, Paul Alewine, Elizabeth Alewine; great grandson: Logan Tanner, brother: Roy Alewine; Mr. Alewine is preceded in death by his parents: Joseph and Susie Alewine and by his brothers: Thomas and Eugene Alewine. The family would like to thank caregiver: LaTonya Nugin.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, July 17, 2010 at 11:00 AM at Lakemont Presbyterian Church with Rev. Jack Jagoditch officiating. Interment will follow at Sunset Hill Cemetery in North Augusta, SC. Pallbearers will be Ben and Brian Tanner, Peter, Paul and Vincent Alewine and Don Blackstock.
Honorary pallbearers will be the John Tabb Sunday School Class at Lakemont Presbyterian Church where he was a member.
