WORCESTER-Elpida (Kostas) Economou, 70, of Worcester, died Wednesday, July 14th, surrounded by her family after a long battle with cancer. She leaves her husband of 48 years, George Economou; two sons Kosta G. Economou and his wife, Gail, Thomas G. Economou and his wife, Vanessa; a daughter, Joanna Vozikis and her husband, Christos; her mother Efrosini Kostas; a brother, Michael Kostas and his wife, Panorea; her sister Eleftheria John all of Worcester; eight grandchildren, Julia, Kristina, Kendall, Angela, Amberli, Katelynn, Eleni and Stergios; and many nephews and nieces. She was predeceased by her sister, Lynn Bilodeau who passed away on April 14th, 2010.
She was born in Grapsi, Northern Epiros, Greece; her father was the late Thomas Kostas. Mrs. Economou had worked as an inspector for over 20 years with Astra Pharmaceutical, retiring in 2005. She was a member of St. Spyridon Greek Orthodox Cathedral, the Ladies Philoptochos Society and the Horos To Zalongou. Mrs. Economou will be remembered as a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, daughter and sister whose love for her family, especially her grandchildren was endless.
The family extends their heartfelt thanks to Dr. Ball, Paula and Tina at the Levine Cancer Center and to the UMASS Memorial Hospice Program, in particular Lynn and Camille.
The funeral is Saturday, July 17th from O’CONNOR BROTHERS FUNERAL HOME, 592 Park Avenue, with a service at 9:00 AM in St. Spyridon Greek Orthodox Cathedral, 102 Russell Street. Burial will follow in Hope Cemetery. Calling hours are Friday, July 16th from 4:00 until 7:00 PM in the funeral home.
