Thomas Jefferson Jarrell
Augusta, GA – Entered into rest Saturday, July 10, 2010 at University Hospital, Mr. Thomas Jefferson Jarrell, 87, husband of Lois Scales Jarrell.
Mr. Jarrell was a native of Cleveland, OH and resided in Augusta since 1945. He joined the Army Air Corp in 1942 as a bomber pilot in training. He was in the 559th Bomb Squadron in the 9th Air Force. He served in the Ardennes, Rhineland and Central Europe. He flew 36 missions and earned several medals: Air Medal with 4 Oakleaf Clusters, European Middle Eastern with 3 Battle Stars, American Campaign Medal, Distinguished Unit Badge, and World War II Victory Medal.
Mr. Jarrell, a graduate of the University of Georgia, was a member of the Beta Gamma Business Fraternity and a member of Reid Memorial Presbyterian Church. He was a member of Augusta Country Club, Lions Club of Augusta, Augusta Toastmasters, and was Commodore of the Augusta Sailing Club while building the first Club House. Mr. Jarrell was President of Southeastern Fabric Products Association while in the canvas awning business. He retired as President of Bailie’s Art Center.
Family members in addition to his wife include children: Lynda Jarrell Moore of Augusta, Barbara Jeanne Jarrell of Augusta, Sandra Jarrell Sanders, Thomas Jefferson Jarrell, Jr., Lois Fortson Brantley (Allen); grandchildren: Lori Lively Holley (Butch), Erin Lively Kirchhoff (Scott), Harriet Dobson Brantley, David Allen Brantley, Jr.; great-grandchildren: Hunter Warren Holley, Hayden Thomas Holley; two brothers: Robert Henry “Bob” Jarrell of Augusta and Isle of Palms, SC, and Richard Frederick Jarrell of Augusta. Mr. Jarrell was predeceased by his wife Jeanne Culpepper Jarrell who passed away in 1985.
Memorial services will be held Tuesday, July 13, 2010 at 11:00 A.M. at Reid Memorial Presbyterian Church with Rev. Paul Sherwood officiating. A private family interment will be at Westover Memorial Park.
The family requests that in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions be made to the American Cancer Society, 2607 Commons Blvd, Augusta, GA 30909, or the Jud C. Hickey Day Care Center for Alzheimers Care, 1901 Central Ave., Augusta, GA 30904.
The family will receive friends Tuesday, July 13, 2010 after the service at the residence.
