WHIPPLE: Robert L. Whipple Jr., 60, of High St. Mystic, died July 8, 2010. He was born Oct. 15, 1949 in Westerly, RI the son of the late Robert and Viola (Tarbox) Whipple. He was a Navy veteran serving during the Vietnam War. He later transferred to the CT National Guard for a total 18 years of service.
Mr. Whipple was employed at Defender Industries until his illness. He was a member of the VFW Post 1265 in Pawcatuck, CT. Mr. Whipple was named firefighter of the year in 1991 at the Bradford Fire Dept. in RI.
He is survived by his beloved wife Laurie (Debigare) Whipple and five children; April Pires and husband Armand of Cumberland, RI, Robert Whipple III and wife Heather of Sprague, CT, Joy Whipple of Westerly, RI, Douglass and Billy-Joe Whipple both of Mystic, three siblings; Danya Dubeau, Nancy Jennings, William Whipple and eight grandchildren; Aaron, Brody, Marissa, Trystian, Armando, Olivia, Ryan, and Emma. He was predeceased by siblings; Mary Alice Herman, Larry Whipple and Dorothy Bousquet.
His family will receive relatives and friends on Sunday from 4 to 6 pm at the Dinoto Funeral Home, 17 Pearl St., Historic downtown Mystic. Graveside services will be held on Monday at 11:30am in Rhode Island Veterans Memorial Cemetery, 301 South County Trail, Exeter, RI.
