Obituary

Alice Piquado, 89, of Salem, N.H. died on July 8 at Salem Haven Nursing Home. Born and raised in Washington, D.C., Alice lived in the Washington metropolitan area most of her life until she moved to Salem 4 years ago. Having spent so long in the nation’s capital, she always enjoyed discussing politics and remained a proud democrat throughout her life.

Alice’s greatest passions in life were her family, her religion and reading. Her door was always open and she generously spent years taking everyone, family and visitors, to the many Washington sights, her favorite being the National Gallery of Art. A convert to Catholicism at age 16, Alice, along with her husband Carl, were pioneers in the Washington, D.C. CANA movement where she was active for many years. Reading was a lifelong joy for Alice, and she had the distinction as a child of reading every book in the children’s section of her local library before moving on to the adult section. If she thought a book was special, she would read it several times, and she continued with this practice until age 88.

Alice, daughter of the late Charles and Margaret (Veatch) Reinhardt, was the widow of Carl Piquado. They were married 58 years and together they raised 6 children. She also was predeceased by son, David, daughter Donna Jeffers and granddaughter Elizabeth Jeffers.

Alice is survived by daughters Constance and her husband Maurice Pennisi of Salem, N.H.; Marie and husband Laurence Novotney of Rockport, ME; Margaret and her husband Keith Wagner of Paisley, FL; son John and his wife Dorothy of Gilford, N.H.; sister Marian Piquado of Sacramento, CA; sister Jeanne and her husband Harold Williams of New Smyrna Beach, FL. She also leaves 11 grandchildren, Mark, Alice, Paul, Laura, Jennifer, Renee, Donna, Gabriel, Carl, Michael, and Allen, each of whom she proclaimed would grow up to be either President or Pope, 4 darling great grandchildren, several loving nieces and nephews and many good friends.

Alice’s family would like to thank the staff of Salem Haven and Beacon Hospice for their exceptional care and heartfelt support.

Her funeral and burial will take place in Maryland. Vistiation will be on Wed. from 10 -11AM at Our Lady of Mercy Church in Potomac, MD. The Funeral Mass will follow at 11AM. Burial will be in Gate of Heaven Cemetery. Local arrangements are under the care of Douglas & Johnson Funeral Home, 214 Main St, Salem, NH.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association of NH, 1 Bedford Farms Dr, Suite 105, Bedford, NH 03110
