WEBSTER – S. Francis White, 85, of Racicot Ave., died Tuesday, July 6, 2010, in Lanessa Extended Care.
He leaves his loving wife of 62 years, Virginia M. (Kasierski) White; a son, John F. White and his wife Susanne Fitzgibbons of Webster; 3 granddaughters, Melissa Latour and her husband Paul, Shannon Spitz and her husband George, and Jennifer White and her fiancé Doug McKay; 5 great grandchildren, Sydney and Sage Latour, Ryan and Victoria Spitz, and Thomas Capano; a sister, Marjorie Hinchliffe and her husband Richard of Webster; nephews and nieces.
He was born in Webster, the son of Simon F. and Catherine T. (Morris) White and was a lifelong resident. He graduated from Saint Louis High School in 1943.
He was an Army veteran of World War II, serving as a staff sergeant in the Asiatic-Pacific Theater. He was awarded the marksman rifle combat infantry badge, the purple heart and the bronze star.
Mr. White worked for 25 years as a custom upholsterer for Risom Manufacturing Company in North Grosvenordale, CT. He then retired as head security guard at Cranston Print Works Company in 1990.
He was a member of Saint Louis Church, the Disabled American Veterans Chapter #53 and the Webster-Dudley American Legion Post #184.
He enjoyed taking cruises with his family and also boating on Webster Lake. His special hobbies were creating driftwood art and quilting for his grandchildren and great grandchildren. He was affectionately known as “Papa” to them.
The funeral will be held Friday, July 9, from Scanlon Funeral Service, 38 East Main St.,
with a Mass at 10:00 AM in Saint Louis Church, 14 Lake Street. Burial will be in Saint Joseph Garden of Peace. The Webster-Dudley Veterans Council will perform the military honors at the cemetery.
