Obituary

Dr. Richard B. Winslow passed away on July 4th in Brewster.

He was raised in Whitman, went on to Thayer Academy, the University of Vermont and Tufts Dental School and continued on to earn his Fellowship in the Academy of General Dentistry. He taught for many years in the evenings at Tufts Dental School.

In Needham he practiced Family Dentistry for 26 years and served on the staff as an Oral Surgeon at the Glover Hospital. After moving to Brewster, he continued his family Dental practice for an additional 20 years. He is the last surviving founder of the Needham Exchange Club. At Mount Ida College in Newton he was a trustee for 24 years and a co-founder of the Dental Hygienist Program and the Dental Assistant / Office Management Program. He served in the Korean War as an oral surgeon stationed at Fort Meade, MD. Dick was active in the Boston and Cape Cod Masonic Lodge where he was a Master Mason, a member of the Aleppo Band where he played the trumpet and a Jester. He served as past president of the Cape Cod Shrine Club and the Brewster Garden Club. He was also a member of the Chatham Band for many years.

Dick was an avid gardener, loved reading, playing his trumpet, his antique cars and his farm in Bradford, NH.

He is survived by his loving wife “Polly”” of 65 years and 3 children; Anne Carlson and her husband Bryan of Needham/Medfield, Marsha Wilder and her husband Mark of Maryland and Richard Jr. and his wife Terry of Brewster, plus 6 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren.

Graveside services will be held at the Colebrook Cemetery, Essex Street, Whitman, MA on Monday July 12 at 11 AM. Donations in Dick’s memory may be made to Shriners Hospital, 51 Blossom Street Boston, MA 02114
