Obituary

BEVERLY: Joseph W. Callahan, 76, died Thursday, July 1, 2010 in the Kaplan Family Hospice House in Danvers following an extended illness. He was the husband of Rose A. (Catoggio) Callahan.
Born in Boston on March 11, 1934, he was the son of the late Richard B. and Roseanna (Quigley) Callahan. A U.S. Navy veteran of the Korean War, he served aboard the USS Benner before being honorably discharged in June 1959.
He was employed as a shift supervisor for many years at the Container Corporation of America in Medford and also worked at the B & W Press before his retirement in 2004. He enjoyed gardening, special times with his family and helping restore a 1966 Mustang with his son, Joseph.
In addition to his wife of fifty-eight years, he is survived by two daughters and a son-in-law, Susan and Robert Mitton of Beverly and Joanne LeDonne of Raymond, NH, two sons, Joseph Callahan, Jr. of Haverhill and John Callahan of Lynn, nine grandchildren who he has blessed with his beautiful and loving spirit, Jenna (Mitton) and her husband, Eric Milman, Jeremy Mitton, Nicholas Esposito, Melissa and Melanie MacMullen, Robert and Cassandra LeDonne, Tammie Cote and Sabrina Callahan, seven great-grandchildren and many loving nieces and nephews. He was also predeceased by his beloved daughter, Sharon Esposito, a sister, Helene (Callahan) Cannetelli and four brothers, Richard, Robert, George and Gerald Callahan.
Visiting hours will be held on Tuesday evening in the Grondin Funeral Home, 376 Cabot Street, Beverly from 5 – 7 p.m. followed by a memorial service at 7 p.m. Relatives and friends are cordially invited to attend. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in his memory to the Hospice of the North Shore, 75 Sylvan St., Suite B-102, Danvers, MA 01923. Interment will be privately held in the North Beverly Cemetery.
