SGM (Ret) Jeff Carol Crawford, 75, Clarksville, died Wednesday, June 30, 2010, at Vanderbilt University Medical Center. A celebration of life service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Saturday at Salem Baptist Church, Hwy 1453 (in Kentucky), with Brother Jimmy Stewart officiating. Burial will be in Kentucky Veterans Cemetery-West with military honors. Visitation will be from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Friday at the funeral home and from noon until the hour of the service Saturday at the church. A committal service will be held 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, July 6 at Kentucky Veterans Cemetery-West. Neal-Tarpley-Parchman Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. He was born July 8, 1934 in Jonesboro, Arkansas, son of the late John A. Crawford and Vella Hall Crawford. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by daughter, Linda Susan Crawford and son, Philip David Crawford. SGM Crawford retired from the U.S. Army in August 1979. He was stationed in Korea; Ft. Campbell, Kentucky, where he deployed with the 101st Airborne Division to Vietnam and Ft. Bragg, North Carolina, where he was a member of the 82nd Airborne Division, from 1968 through 1977. He graduated from the Sergeant Major's Academy at Ft. Bliss, Texas in January 1978 and did a tour in Germany from 1978 through 1979. He earned the Bronze Star Medal, Meritorious Serice Medal, Army Commendation Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Good Conduct Medal 7th Award, Parachutist Badge, Vietnam Service Medal with 4 campaign stars and one oversea service bar. He retired from the Ft. Campbell Commissary in June 1996 and was a member of Salem Baptist Church for over 38 years. Survivors include his wife of 49 1/2 years, Mary "Ann" Crawford; daughter, Pam Crawford Cloud, Clarksville; two grandchildren, Ellissa Cloud and Jessica Cloud; and one great-grandaughter, Aubrey Ann Sumner.
