TAUNTON – John J. Andrade, husband of Genevieve (DeCosta) Andrade, died at Morton Hospital on June 28, 2010.
He was 82.
Born in East Taunton, he was the son of the late Manuel R. and Maria (Pitta) Andrade.
Raised and educated in Taunton, Mr. Andrade served in the U.S. Army during WW II.
He later received an Associate’s Degree in Criminal Justice from Bristol Community College.
Mr. Andrade was a well-known barber in the city, and co-owned and operated the former Tremont Barber Shop for over thirty eight-years, retiring in 1988.
A licensed real estate agent, he was also employed many years ago by the former Paul Dever School in the security department.
Mr. Andrade was a member of the Elks Lodge 150 in Taunton and a communicant of St. Andrew the Apostle Church.
Besides his wife of Taunton, he leaves a son, James S. and his wife Valerie Andrade of Taunton; three brothers, Manuel and Daniel Andrade, both of Raynham, and Charles Andrade of E. Taunton; a sister, Rose Lecuyer of E. Taunton; two grandchildren, James Andrade Jr. and his wife Lucy of Berkley, and Jonathon Andrade of Taunton; a great granddaughter, Ava Andrade of Berkley; and many nieces and nephews.
He was also the brother of the late Henry Andrade, Virginia Rebello, Mary Texeira, and Sadie DePonte.
His funeral will be held from the Silva Funeral Home, 80 Broadway on Friday July 2nd at 10 a.m. followed by a funeral mass at St. Andrew the Apostle Church at 11 a.m.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend.
Calling Hours will be held at the funeral home on Thursday, July 1st from 4 to 7 p.m.
Burial will be private at the MA National VA Cemetery in Bourne.
