Charles Kirkpatrick Jordan 68, of Provincetown died at his home on the morning of June 23, 2010 surrounded by his family. He was the beloved husband of Catherine (Evans) Jordan to whom he has been married since June of 1963. Mr. Jordan was born in Glasgow, Scotland on August 24, 1941. Although he was a humble man by nature, he was most proud of his Scottish heritage. He was the son of the late William and Helen Jordan. He moved to Provincetown from Scotland with his family in 1973. Originally he lived with his sister Helen (Jordan) Felton and her husband the late George Felton and their family. He was a butcher by trade and retired from the Grand Union, currently the Stop & Shop in Provincetown a couple of years ago. He was a man who found joy in the simple everyday experiences of life. For 30 years he worked at Lema’s Market on Main St. in Wellfleet where he was known simply as the "Scottish singing butcher." In the midst of his work he would frequently be heard singing Sinatra tunes. He had also worked at Bryant’s market currently Angel Foods on Commercial St. in Provincetown. He was a big fan of European football.
What he enjoyed most, was spending time with his wife Catherine and the other members of his family including his 4 children, Theresa Sharp and her husband Ricky of Cumbernauld, Scotland, Lorraine Odiorne and her husband Robert of Alpine, CA, William Jordan and his wife Bonnie of Clearwater, FL and Charles Jordan and his wife Susan of Orleans, MA, his 2 grandchildren, Adrian Orr of Cumbernauld Scotland & Jayme Odiorne of Alpine, CA, and his sister Helen of Orleans, his niece Betty Ann Carreiro and her husband Joseph of Provincetown and his nephews George Felton and his wife Marisa of Provincetown and Alan Felton of Provincetown. He was the uncle of the late Kenneth Felton. In addition to his extended family he is also survived by his dear friend Alice McMillan of Glasgow Scotland, wife of his dearest friend Tam McMillan who recently died.
A funeral service will take place on Friday, July 2, 2010 at 10:00am in the Provincetown United Methodist Church, 20 Shank Painter Rd. Provincetown. Visiting hours are Thursday 4:00 - 7:00pm in the Gately - McHoul Funeral Home 94 Harry Kemp Way Provincetown.
