Obituary

Paul D. Fistori, 77, of Fairhaven died June 24, 2010 at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center after a brief illness.
He is survived by his loving wife of 54 years, Nancy Dodge Fistori. He leaves his five children Amy F. Trow and her husband Peter, Anne S. Langlois and her husband John all of Mattapoisett, Margaret F. Spence and her husband Randy of Matthews, NC, Paul D. Fistori, Jr. and his wife Erin of East Sandwich and John M. Fistori and his wife Christine of No. Dartmouth. His twelve grandchildren, Grace Trow, Andrew, William and Avery Langlois, Annie and Josh Spence, Nicholas, Nathanael and Jonathan Fistori, and Cameron, Sophie and Cole Fistori. Brothers, Philip A. Fistori of Virginia and Arthur Fistori of Mt. Lauren, NJ and sisters, Diane Phillips of Pleasantville, NY and Celine Streva of Berwick, LA.
Born in Bangor, ME, he was the son of the late Philip A. and Anna (Smith) Fistori. He was a graduate of St. John's High School and Worcester State College. Upon graduation, he was commissioned a Second Lieutenant in the United States Marine Corps. He completed Basic Class in Quantico, Virginia and then was stationed at Camp Lejeune, North Carolina. After his Marine Corps service, he began a career in public education, serving as teacher and Vice Principal in Dannemora, New York, and teacher, Guidance Counselor and Principal in Sudbury, MA. He earned his Master's Degree in Education from Framingham State College. He became the Registrar at Assumption College and in 1971 became the Registrar and Director of University Records at the University of Massachusetts in Dartmouth. He retired in 1996. He returned to the University from 2001 to 2006 as Head Golf Coach. He was awarded Division III Northeast Region Coach of the Year for 2002-2003.
Mr. Fistori was a communicant of St. Anthony's Church in Mattapoisett.
He was a longtime member and past president of the Reservation Golf Club.

His Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Monday, June 28th at 11 AM in St. Anthony's Church, 22 Barstow St. Mattapoisett. Burial will be Monday at 3 PM in the Massachusetts National Cemetery. Visiting hours are omitted. Arrangements are with the Saunders-Dwyer Mattapoisett Home For Funerals, 50 County Rd. (Rt. 6) Mattapoisett. In lieu of flowers remembrances may be made to the Joslin Diabetes Center, One Joslin Place, Boston, MA 02215.
