L. D. Jones, age 89, of Water Valley, MS died Wednesday, June 23, 2010 at Yalobusha General Hospital in Water Valley, MS. He was born April 10, 1921 in Water Valley, MS to the late Brandon Rice and Hazel Rushing Jones, and served in the United States Army during WWII. He was a building contractor and owner of Jones Building Supply. He was also a former co-owner of Lafayette County Gin. He served his county as Supervisor for three terms and was a past president of the Rotary Club. Mr. Jones an active member of Campground Baptist Church and served as a deacon for 55 years.
The funeral service will be held at Campground Baptist Church at 2:00 PM on Friday, June 25, 2010 with Bro. David Ross presiding. Visitation will be held at the church from 12:00-2:00 PM prior to service time. Burial will take place at Campground Cemetery in Water Valley, MS with Hal Vaughn, Tommy Vaughn, Michael Jones, Steve Jones, Greg Jones and B. J. Jones serving as pallbearers. Lloyd Defer, Charles Dennis and Michael Callahan will serve as honorary pallbearers.
He is survived by his wife, Nancy Winburn Jones, of Water Valley, MS; four sons, Bobby (Darlene) Jones, Billy (Joy) Jones, Jerry Jones and Ricky Jones, and one step-son, Ricky Winburn (Bobbie) of Water Valley, MS; four grandchildren, six step-grandchildren, three great grandchildren and five step-great grandchildren.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Mary Alice Jones; two sisters, Marjorie Mayo and Lura Mae Vaughn; two brothers, Brandon “Jack” Jones, Jr. and Jimmy Jones, and one grandson, Bobby Ray Jones.
