Obituary

Lieutenant Norman A. Shaw, 75, of Methuen, died Friday June 18, 2010 at the Holy Family Hospital, surrounded by his family, following a long illness.

Norman was born in Methuen on May 1, 1935, son of Willard Arthur and Ruth Alice (Clark) Shaw.

He grew up and was educated in Methuen. Norman was a graduate of Tenney High School. He proudly served his country with the U.S. Air Force during the Korean War and was a retired Lieutenant on the Methuen Fire Department after serving 32 years.

After retirement he enjoyed spending time with his family, watching sports and breeding German Shepherds. He especially enjoyed fishing, gardening and hunting as well as spending time during the winters in Florida.

Norman is survived by his loving wife of 53 years, Betty Rose (Penke) Shaw of Methuen; his son, David Shaw and his wife Donna of Methuen and their three children, Marissa and Skylar Shaw and Jon-Michael Mears; a daughter, Debbie Newton of Haverhill and her three children, Stacy, Niki and Stephen, five great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. Norman was predeceased by a son-in-law, Stephen Newton.

ARRANGEMENTS: Friends are invited to call from 4 to 8 p.m. on Monday, June 21st at the Charles Dewhirst Funeral Home, 80 Broadway, Methuen. A funeral service will be held on Tuesday at 10 a.m. at the funeral home. Burial will follow at Walnut Grove Cemetery, Methuen.
