Obituary

Whitman – Richard B. “Dick” Taylor 94, a resident of Whitman for over 34 years, died Sunday June 20 after a period of failing health. He was the beloved husband of Jean (Baggs) Taylor and the late Katherine (Anderson) Taylor and the late Persis (Robbins) Taylor.

Born in Boston and raised in Alston he was the son of the late Thomas and Kathryn (Hopkins) Taylor and a graduate of Boston English High School.

Dick was a proud veteran of World War II having served in the US Navy from 1944-1946, earning an Asiatic Pacific Theatre Medal w/ 1 Star among others.

He worked for over 40 years for Stone & Webster Engineering of Boston retiring in 1983 from their Power Division.

He was an active member of the Weymouth United Masonic Lodge and the York Rite Bodies of Brockton. He was a communicant of the North Congregational Church of Middleboro.

Dick was a talented local artist and enjoyed his time spent painting water colors, and was a member of the Abington Art Association.

In addition to his wife Jean he is survived by stepsons Wayne Robbins of Brockton, and Joseph Baggs of FL, his stepdaughters Linda Downer of Hanson and Myra Stephens of ME, his sister Jane Danielson of Groton, his granddaughters Marie Taylor of Dedham, Nicole Robbins of Brockton as well as several other grandchildren and great grandchildren and his 2 nieces. He was the father of the late John and Nancy Taylor, and stepfather of the late Bette-Lynn Robbins.

His funeral service will be held Wednesday June 23 at 11 AM in the Blanchard Funeral Chapel Plymouth Street (Rt. 58 at the rotary) Whitman. Burial will follow in the Colebrook Cemetery, Whitman. Visiting hours will be held Tuesday June 22 from 4-8 PM with a Masonic Service at 7 PM. Donation in his name may be made to North Congregational Church 38 Plymouth Street, Middleboro, MA 02346.
