Obituary

DANVERS—Retired Danvers Police Captain William S. Webb, 73, died unexpectedly at home on Friday, June 18, 2010. He was the loving husband of the late Marie (Nangle) Webb and the late Judith (Mullen) (Capra) Webb.
Born in Middleton on Oct. 5, 1936, he was the son of the late Lewis and MaryEllen (Hopkins) Webb. He was raised and educated in Danvers and was a graduate of Holten High School, Class of 1956. Bill went on to earn a bachelor’s degree from Salem State College and his master’s degree in criminal justice from Northeastern University. An honorably discharged veteran of the Vietnam Era, he served in the U.S. Air Force.
Bill joined the Danvers Police in 1965 as a reserve officer. Appointed a patrolman in 1967, he was promoted to sergeant in 1971 and became captain in 1980. He retired from the department in 1992. For several years, Bill was an instructor of criminal justice at Salem State.
A longtime Danvers resident, Bill lived for ten years in Fayette, Maine in his retirement and made his home in Hubbardston, MA for the last three years. A longtime member and past president of the Danvers Kiwanis Club, he was a past Lt. Governor of the New England District.
While in Danvers, he was a communicant of St. Mary of the Annunciation Church, where he was a Eucharistic minister and worked with engaged couples in marriage preparation. During his years in Maine, Bill was a communicant of St. Francis Xavier Church in Winthrop and a member of the Augusta Kiwanis Club.
He is survived by his children, Marcia Webb-Donarumo and her husband John of Templeton, Wendy Ouellette and her husband Eric of Westford, and Michael Webb and his wife Kellee of North Carolina, two step-sons, James Capra of Natick and Peter Capra of Salem, 9 grandchildren, Julia, Victoria, Clothilde, and Nicolo Donarumo, Mairead and Aine Ouellette, Jacob and Mackenzie Capra, and Amber Webb, a brother, Alan Webb, and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his daughter, Melissa Webb, and his brothers, Edward, Gordon, and Donald Webb.
His Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Thursday, June 24, 2010 at 11AM in Saint Mary of the Annunciation Church, 24 Conant St., Danvers. Burial will follow in Annunciation Cemetery, Danvers. Relatives and friends are invited. Visiting hours are Wednesday from 4-8PM in C.R. Lyons & Sons, Funeral Directors, 28 Elm St., Danvers Square. In lieu of flowers, donations in Bill’s name may be made to the Danvers Kiwanis Foundation, Scholarship Fund, PO Box 92, Danvers, MA 01923.
