Hilda Marie Newman passed away peacefully on Friday, June 18, 2010 at her home with her family by her side. She was born August 1, 1921 to the late George Schott and Kathryne Hettick, the youngest of six girls.
Her greatest joy was found in being a devoted wife and mother and in providing a warm and loving home for her family. She was also proud of her past work experiences that included working at Woolworth’s on 4th Street, working in the Defense Plant at Reynold’s Metals during World War II and as a tutor for students at Our Lady of Consolation School. Her generous heart, her ability to listen and the kindness she showed to others touched many lives.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 58 years, Artie; sisters and brothers-in-law, Ruth Atkins (Milt), Esther Grant (Jess), Alma Walsh (Joe), Evelyn Godfrey (Bill); and one nephew, Jody Walsh.
She is survived by her daughter, Kathy Beam (Mike) and by her son, Art Newman (Carol); grandchildren, Scott Beam (Leslie), Chad Newman (Channa), Kim Certa (Tony); and six great-grandchildren, Nicholas and Lucy Beam, Caleb and Carleigh Newman, and Cole and Josie Certa. She is also survived by her sister, Norma Wiedmar (John).
The family extends special thanks and much gratitude to caregivers, Janet Bowling and Carolyn Dean for the care, the compassion and love they gave everyday. Also special thanks to nighttime caregivers, Doris Smith and Misty Gomez who lovingly kept the watch each night. They were all truly angels sent from God.
