Obituary

Gertrude M. (Babin) Fiore, of Longwood Place in Reading, formerly of Winchester, passed away June 18, 2010. Born, raised and educated in Eel Brook, Nova Scotia, she was the daughter of the late John P. and Anne G. (Surrette). A long-time resident of Winchester, Gertrude was a seamstress there for many years, forging many friendships with her customers. In addition to raising and caring for her family, she enjoyed knitting and sewing, and was always kind enough to knit for Project Linus, an organization that provides the comfort of hand-made blankets and afghans to children who are ill or traumatized. Gertrude was also a member of St. Mary’s church and the VFW Auxiliary. She was the beloved wife of the late Ralph Fiore and the loving mother of Ron Fiore and his wife Christine of Stoneham, Janet Gearin and her husband Richard of Billerica, and Daniel Fiore and his wife Kathy of Wakefield. Dear sister of Jeannie DiTucci of Costa Mesa, CA and the late Rene Bourbon, Edgar and Hervey Babin, Hilda Tofuri and Etta Donahue. She was the devoted grandmother of Arlene Field, Patricia Allwardt, Laura La Francesca, Karen Fiore, Timothy and Andrew Gearin and Matthew and Michael Fiore. 5 great-grandchildren further survive her: Viola and Maria La Francesca, Clarissa and Serena Field, and Cole Allwardt. Her funeral will be held from the Costello Funeral Home, 177 Washington St., Winchester on Monday, June 21 at 10:30AM, followed by a Mass of Christian burial will be held in St. Mary’s Church, 155 Washington St. Winchester at 11:30 AM. Relatives and friends kindly invited. Visiting Hours will be held in the funeral home on Sunday 4-8 PM. In lieu of flowers, donations in her memory may be made to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital P.O. Box 2151, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38101-2151.
