Obituary

Dorothy Duckworth Alderman, 94, of Tifton died Wednesday, June 16, 2010, at Osceola Nursing Home in Ocilla. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, June 19, 2010, in the Chapel of Bowen-Donaldson Home for Funerals. Rev. K. C. Stevens will officiate with burial to follow in Oak Ridge Cemetery. Grandsons will serve as pallbearers. The family will receive friends on Friday, June 18, 2010, from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. at Bowen-Donaldson Home for Funerals.

Mrs. Alderman was born on June 29, 1915 in Tift County and was the daughter of Walter Robert Duckworth and Minnie Geneva Bass Duckworth, both deceased. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Robert Clifton “Red” Alderman; one son, Ken Smith; one daughter, Geneva Ann Shaw; and four brothers, Glenn Duckworth, Dick Duckworth, George Duckworth and Robert Lee Duckworth. She was retired from Tift General Hospital as a surgical administrative assistant and a member of Tifton’s First Presbyterian Church.

Mrs. Alderman is survived by two sons, Charles L. Smith of Dublin and Fred Smith of Decatur; three daughters, Ruth Carol Gowder of Lawrenceburg, Tennessee, Hilda “Van” Smith of Atlanta and Wanda Chloe Rivenbark of Rose Hill, North Carolina; one brother, Walter Robert Duckworth, Jr. of Warner Robins; one sister, Mary Hyder of Macon; eleven grandchildren, Deann Smith Blankenship, Peggy Smith, Cathy Shaw Giles, Dana Shaw McMillan, Jeanenne English Shaw, Ricky English, Gary English, Donna Cromer, Duane Cromer, Charlie Smith and Robert Smith; and 14 great grandchildren.
