Obituary

Lloyd A. Vickers, 91, of Wray died Sunday, June 13 at his residence.

Funeral services will be held 11 AM Wednesday, June 16, at Satilla Baptist Church with Rev. William Pope and Rev. Dan Johnson officiating. Interment will follow in Satilla Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 7 until 9 Tuesday evening at the funeral home in Ocilla.

Mr. Vickers was born January 28, 1919 in Coffee County to the late Dennis A. and Lucia Paulk Vickers. He was a farmer and lived in the community all of his life. Mr. Vickers was a deacon and the oldest living member of Satilla Baptist Church. He was a member of the Hampshire and Yorkshire Swine Producers Association, Georgia Pork Producers Association and the International Boer Goat Association. Mr. Vickers was named Hampshire Herdsman Of The Year and was well known for promoting and improving the quality of pork production in the Southeast United States.

Mr. Vickers is survived by his wife of 70 years: Wawena Harper Vickers of Wray; son and daughter-in-law: Wayne & Sandra Vickers of Wray; daughters and sons-in-law: Amelia & W.A. Carver of Wray and Marilyn & George Cook of Ocilla; grandchildren: Tony (Tammy) Vickers, Beverly and W.A. (Susan) Carver, Jr., David (Regina), Dennis (Kelly) & Dixie Cook, Loye (William) Pope and Tracy (Jeffery) Smith; great grandchildren: Anthony and Andrew Vickers, Blaine, Gage, Ben and Rachel Cook, Casey and Cody Pope, Cole and Cane Carver, Dion (Regan) and Dusty Smith and Wade Sumner; great great grandchildren: Emilee and Cailee Smith; sister-in-law: Karleen Paulk of Wray as well as several nieces and nephews. Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by 2 brothers, Ivy and Leroy Vickers, 4 sisters, Ruby Key, Willie Yancey, Thelma Johns and Ella Mae Vickers and a nephew, Harmon Vickers.
