Obituary

Barry J. Jackson passed away Sunday, June 13th after a long period of failing health. He was born in Lawrence, MA on December 9, 1932. He was the son of the late Emma Jackson and predeceased by a sister Patsy and a brother Jack.

He served honorably in the US Army during the Korean Conflict, and was a recipient of two Purple Heart medals. He was an active member of the Deerfield Beach, FL Moose and Knights of Columbus organizations. He was also an active member of the Newburyport, MA Elks.

He retired in 1989 to Pompano Beach, FL after 30 years service with the Essex County Sheriff Dept as Deputy Superintendent. He spent his retirement between Pompano Beach and Georgetown. While in Pompano Beach, he took pleasure in organizing and participating in various Highland Village retirement community activities. Barry also read extensively and was a familiar face at the Georgetown Peabody Library.

Predeceased by his wife of 42 years, Carolyn (Cann) Jackson, he is survived by a daughter Debra Letourneau and husband Ronald of Methuen, sons Barry Jackson Jr and wife Deborah of Merrimac, MA, and Scott Jackson and wife Lisa of Georgetown. In addition, he is survived by four grandchildren, Erin Jackson, Matthew Jackson, Kristin Letourneau, and Keith Letourneau, and several nieces and nephews.
Friends are invited to call from 4 to 8 p.m. on Wednesday June 16th, 2010 at the Charles F. Dewhirst Funeral Home, 80 Broadway, Methuen. A funeral service will be held in his honor at 10 a.m. on Thursday at the funeral home. Burial will follow at Elmwood Cemetery, Methuen.
