Obituary

WASHINGTON…Lanier “Len” Attkisson, 86, of Washington, passed away at 4:32 a.m., Thursday, June 3, 2010 at Washington Christian Village.

Len was born on October 16, 1923 in Louisville, Kentucky to Guy and Maude Dorney Attkisson. He married Bobbye Beasley on January 30, 1971 in Birmingham, Alabama. Len was preceded in death by his first wife, Phyllis Gann Attkisson.

Also surviving are two sons, Randall (Sherry) Attkisson of Stanford, KY and Kenneth Attkisson of Ft. Myers, FL; two daughters, Jeanne (Steve) Kallman of Birmingham, AL and Judy (Bob) Paddock of FL; eight grandchildren and six great grandchildren. Len was also preceded in death by one brother, Dawson and one sister Elizabeth “Dee Dee”.

Prior to Len’s retirement he was the manager for Enterprise Rent-A-Car in Ft. Myers, Florida.

A veteran of World War II, Len had served in the U.S. Navy serving in the Pacific Theatre including Tarawa and the Marshall islands.

A memorial service will be held on Thursday, June 17 at Evangelical United Methodist Church, where Len was a member, at 6 p.m. with Rev. Ed Beasley and Rev. Kevin Summers officiating. The family will receive friends from 5 p.m. until time of service at the church. Mason-White Funeral Home is assisting the family in arrangements.

Memorials may be made to his church or OSF Hospice.
