Obituary

North Augusta, SC---Mrs. Bernice Nobles Ellison, 99, entered into rest on Sunday, June 13, 2010 at Trinity Mission Health and Rehabilitation Center, in Edgefield, SC.
Graveside services and interment will be held at 2:00 pm, tomorrow Tuesday, June 15, 2010 at West View Cemetery with Mr. Larry Edmunds officiating.
Mrs. Ellison was a member of Central Christian Church and held until her death the honor of being the oldest member of the Church. She was a member of The Willing Workers Sunday School Class, the Golden Age Club and the Helping Hands Club. Mrs. Ellison was also named Mother of the Year in 1999 and enjoyed attending her church until poor health prevented her attendance.
In 1999, Mrs. Ellison was chosen by the Augusta Canal Authority to participate in the Oral History Project. The Project chronicled the early years of working in textile mills and living in “mill villages.” Mrs. Ellison retired from the Graniteville Company’s Enterprise Division with 25 years of service. Her career in textiles spanned several decades and several mills in Macon, GA and Augusta, GA.
Mrs. Ellison was a wonderful mother, grandmother, great grandmother, great great grandmother, aunt, sister and friend. She will be missed by all who knew her.
Mrs. Ellison was preceded in death by her husband, Richard L. Ellison, daughter, Barbara Ellison Wood, grandson, Richard L. Redd, great great grandson, Tristen Lee Mitchell, son-in-law, Rufus S. Sawyer, son-in-law, Richard J. Hankinson, parents, 5 brothers and 2 sisters.
She is survived by her daughters, Mrs. JoAnne Ellison Sawyer , Mrs. Patsy Ellison Hankinson, and Mrs. Lillie Ellison Miller (David), all of North Augusta, SC, grandchildren, William E. Redd (Mary) of Augusta, GA, Mary A. Hankinson Mitchell of North Augusta, SC, Richard J. Hankinson IV of North Augusta, SC, Russell S. Sawyer of North Augusta, SC, Johnny E. Wood (Julie) of Saracuse, UT, Jerry A. Wood (Leslie) of Corona, CA, Jeffery E. Wood of Birmingham, AL, Teresa S. Harris of North Augusta, SC, Daniel M. Harris III of North Augusta, SC, Amanda Miller King (John) of Greer, SC, Ashley M. Miller of Graniteville, SC, one sister, Lillie Belle Nobles Wynn of Augusta, GA, one brother, Truitt N. Nobles of Augusta, GA , 17 great grandchildren, 7 great great grandchildren and a number of nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends, this evening Monday, June 14, 2010, from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm, at Platt’s Crawford Avenue.
