John E. “Lum” Edwards died early Sunday after a long illness. John was born in Jacksonville in 1923, the son of John and Dora B. Edwards. John came of age during the Second World War, and served in the Army Air Corp, where he acquired a knowledge and love of aircraft. After leaving the service, he made a career in aircraft maintenance and repair.
John loved and served his Savior, Jesus Christ, and was a member of The Church at Argyle. John also served his community. He was very active in the Orange Park Lions Club, where he served as President; the American Legion, Post 187; and La Societe des Quarante Hommes et Huit Chevaux (40/8) where he served as Chef de Gare.
John is survived by his loving wife, Loida; his daughter Jonnell (Mickey); his sisters Ruth Larmondra (Bob), Dot Taylor and Janie McWright; his grandchildren Susanne, Michelle and Michael; and many nieces, nephews and friends. He was predeceased by his parents; his son, Michael; and his sister, Catherine Burgess.
A celebration of John’s life will be held at The Church at Argyle, 6823 Argyle Forest Blvd, Jacksonville at 11:00 am Wednesday, June 16, with internment following at Jacksonville Memory Gardens. The family invites friends to visit them at the church on Tuesday evening, June 15, from 5:00 to 8:00 pm.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that contributions in honor of John’s life be made to The Church at Argyle.
