Robert J. “Pa” Johnson 80, of Franklin, and a former longtime Hyde Park resident, and summer resident of Wareham, died Thursday June 10, 2010 at Franklin Skilled Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, following a long illness. He was the beloved husband of Marie T. (O’Driscoll) Johnson for 55 years.
Born in Boston, January 15, 1930 a son of the late Edward F. and Mary (Gill) Johnson, he was raised and educated in South Boston, and was a graduate of South Boston High School.
Mr. Johnson was a retired sheet metal worker, having worked for Boston Local #17 for many years.
He served in the United States Navy during the Korean War. He attained the rank of AMS/3. He was honorably discharged in August 1952.
He was an avid Boston sports fan, and was a former little league coach in Hyde Park, and an adult advisor at Most Precious Blood Church also in Hyde Park.
Surviving in addition to his wife are 5 sons; Robert J. Johnson Jr. and his wife Kerin of Methuen, Francis M. Johnson and his wife Sheilah of Franklin, David M. Johnson of Hyde Park, Richard T. Johnson and his wife Mary of Foxboro, Thomas P. Johnson and his wife AnnMarie of Franklin, 4 daughters; Marie D. Giunta and her husband Guy of New Hampshire, Gertrude J. Dellorco and her husband Robert of Franklin, Laura J. Briggs of Plymouth, Diane M. Landolphi and her husband Mark of Franklin, a brother Charles of New Hampshire, 2 sisters; Helen Quigley of Braintree, Edna Hopkins and her husband Robert of Arizona , and the late James & John Johnson. He was also the father in law of the late William Briggs.
He also leaves 21 grandchildren; Kathryn, Hannah, Connor, Liam, Michaela, Matthew, Caroline, Kelly, Taylor, Kyle, Dylan, Sydney, Guy, Marie, Patrick, Laura, Robert, Emily, Alexander, Rebecca, Dan, and the late Richard Johnson Jr.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend his funeral with military honors Monday June 14th, at 9:15AM from the Charles F. Oteri & Son Franklin Funeral Home 33 Cottage St. www.franklinfuneral.com, with a funeral Mass in St. Mary’s Church 1 Church Sq. at 10AM.
Interment will take place at the Massachusetts National Cemetery at 3PM.
