Obituary


Marjorie L. (Johnson) (Smith) Kessinger 79, of Halifax, formerly of Whitman, died Thursday June 10th at the Signature Care Healthcare Brockton Hospital, after a period of failing health. She was the beloved wife of 26 years to John R. Kessinger.
Marjorie was born and brought up in Whitman, daughter of the late Edward F. and Camille A. (Duckfield) Johnson.

She was a graduate of Whitman High, class of 1948.

Marjorie was a bookkeeper for Tedeschi’s, an also worked as a waitress at many restaurants in the area.

She was a member of the Halifax Mobile Home Association and the Red Hats of Halifax.

She enjoyed many crafts including, knitting, crocheting and quilting

In addition to her husband she is survived by her sons, Harvey A. Smith, III and his wife Valerie of Plymouth, Kevin Smith and Susan Jewett of Norton, her daughter Darlene (Smith) Casey and her husband Edward L. Casey, III, her step-sons, John Kessinger of Duxbury, David Kessinger of New Jersey, her step-daughters, Joanne Taylor of Hingham, Carolyn MacDonald of Hanover, Nancy and Mary Ellen Kessinger both of Weymouth , her brothers Edward and Leonard Johnson, her sisters , Phyllis Nelson and Eleanor Marquez ; also 18 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren.


Her services will be held on Monday June 14th at 11:00AM in the Blanchard Funeral Chapel Plymouth Street (Rt. 58 at the rotary) Whitman, followed by her interment at the Colebrook Cemetery, Whitman, MA .Visiting hours will be held on Sunday June 13th from 2:00-6:00PM. Donations may be made in her name to the American Cancer Society, 5 Manley St., West Bridgewater, MA and to the St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN. 38105
