Obituary

WEBSTER - Stanley J. “Ducky” Kabala, Sr., 94, died Wednesday, June 9, 2010, in Webster after a two week illness.

He was born on July 29, 1915, in Webster, the son of Wojciech and Zofia (Starzec) Kabala. His wife of 66 years, Emily (Lipski) Kabala, died in 2006. He leaves his daughter, Maria Kabala of Webster; his son, Stanley J. Kabala, Jr. and his wife Catherine of Dudley; and his grandsons, James S. Kabala of Providence and Daniel J. Kabala of Brighton. He also leaves several nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by his brothers John, Joseph and Walter “Bob” Kabala.

Stanley worked in local textile mills for over 45 years as a weaver, including 19 years at Packard Mills and then 16 years at Anglo Fabrics until his retirement in 1981. During the 1930’s and 1940’s “Ducky” was a star centerfielder for the Boosters in the local baseball league. He also served as an umpire for the men’s softball league at Starzec Field. He enjoyed taking walks to Second Island to meet and talk with friends, working around his yard, and fixing things. He was a communicant of Saint Joseph Basilica.

The funeral for Mr. Kabala will be held on Saturday, June 12, from Scanlon Funeral Service, 38 East Main Street, with a Mass at 10:00 AM in Saint Joseph Basilica, 53 Whitcomb Street. Burial will follow at the St. Joseph Garden of Peace. Calling hours are from 6:00 to 8:00 PM Friday, June 11, in the funeral home.
