John F. O'Sullivan, of Methuen died Tuesday June 1, 2010 at Lawrence General Hospital. He was born in Lawrence, MA and was a graduate of Lawrence High School. The husband of Claire Drouin who pre-deceased him and the father of Thomas O'Sullivan also deceased, he is survived by his daughter, Dianne A. Tylus of Methuen, sister, Anna Zahn of Salem, NH, 4 grandchildren and great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
He retired from The Lawrence Paperboard Corp. John was a well decorated veteran of WW II. He served as a machine gunner with The 45th Infantry Division serving in Africa and Italy. He was wounded and taken prisoner in "The Battle of The Caves" on The Anzio Beachhead. He was held captive for 14 months and awarded The Bronze Star, Purple Heart, Combat and Infantry Badge and European Campaign Ribbon with 3 Service Stars. John particularly enjoyed his friends at The Country Kitchen, gardening and daily completing The New York Times crossword puzzle.
At the request of the family, there are no calling hours. A Mass will be said for him on Saturday June 12, 2010 at 4:00pm at St Michaels Church, North Andover.
