Obituary

In Taunton, June 6, 2010 Charlotte L. (Doel) Dutra, After a life time of love, fun, and hard work Charlotte passed away at the age of 89. Her love extended to her husband George L. Dutra until his passing in 1995, to her family and friends. During her marriage, much to the delight of her family, Christmas Eve never passed without a visit to all of her nieces and nephews. Memories of the fun she experienced ranged from driving her brother’s Indian motorcycle in her youth to taking a hot air balloon ride at the age of 75. She drove oxen as a young lady on her parents farm, milked cows, baled hay and often told the story of how she won the heart of her husband, an East Taunton Ice Man, by holding open the cover to the ice box during his regular deliveries. Her Dad thought he’d solve the infatuation by installing a hook to hold the cover open however, Charlotte and George were meant to be a couple and her Dad loved George as a son. Charlotte was born in Taunton to her late parents Frederick & Mary (Holloway) Doel. She worked at a shoe factory in East Taunton and at Leddy’s Pharmacy. Charlotte also enjoyed knitting, playing cards and being with her friends and family. Charltte will be remembered forever for her strong spirit and her love of life. Charlotte was preceded in death by her siblings; the late Rachel Brancs, Eleanor Doel and Alfred Doel. Charlotte also leaves her many nieces and nephews. A funeral home service will be held at the O’Keefe-Wade Funeral Home, 70 Washington St. in Taunton on Weds. June 9th at 11am. Relatives and friends are invited to visiting hours one hour prior to the service from 10-11am. Interment is in the family lot in Pine Hill Cemetery in East Taunton. Donations in Charlotte’s memory may be made to the Taunton Animal Care Facility, 821 West Water St., Taunton, MA. 02780
