Obituary

Mary F. Beaton, 87, passed away at home in Malden on June 4th, 2010. She was born in Malden on May 30th, 1923 to her parents Malden Police Patrolman William Callahan and Mary (O’Brien) Callahan. Mary has been a life-long resident of the Edgeworth Section of Malden. She is a graduate of Immaculate Conception Grammar School and Girls Catholic High School, Class of 1941. As a young woman, Mary worked in the accounting department at the John Hancock Insurance Company. First and foremost, she was a homemaker who cared for her husband and her sons. Mary was a member of the Irish American Association Ladies Auxiliary in Malden where she served on the Board of Directors for many years. She was also a member of the 60 Club at Immaculate Conception Parish in Malden. She is survived by her children; John J. “Jack” Beaton Jr. of Malden and James W. Beaton and his wife Elizabeth of Quincy; and by her grandchildren Andrew and Stephen Beaton. She is also survived by several nieces and nephews. Along with her parents, Mary was predeceased by her husband; John J. Beaton; by her brothers; former State Representative William Callahan, Malden Police Patrolman Edward Callahan and former City Councilor Paul Callahan. Relatives & friends are invited to attend her funeral from the Breslin Funeral Home, 610 Pleasant St., Malden on Tuesday June 8th at 8 AM followed by a Mass of Christian Burial celebrated at Immaculate Conception Church, 600 Pleasant St., Malden at 9 AM. Services will conclude with interment in Oak Grove Cemetery in Medford. Visiting hours will be held at the funeral home on Monday June 7th from 4-8 PM.
