Obituary

Anton J. “Andy” Volk, 84, of Washington, passed away at 12:55 a.m., Thursday, June 3, 2010 at Apostolic Christian Restmor in Morton.

He was born on May 10, 1926 in Wendelin, Illinois to Anton C. and Catherine Keuntsler Volk. Andy married Dorothy Kapper in Olney, Illinois on September 25, 1954. Dorothy survives.

Also surviving are two daughters, Karen Jatkowski of Fisher, Indiana and Phyllis (Michael) Austin of Morton; one son, Kenneth (Monica) Volk of Tremont; one daughter-in-law, Sandra Volk of Lees Summit, Missouri; three sisters, Sister Loretta Volk and Sister Antoinette Volk, both of Donaldson, Indiana and Ethel (Herman) Zwilling of Claremont, Illinois; one brother, Don (Arlene) Volk of Wendelin and nine grandchildren. He was preceded in death by one son, Duane who died in 2004 and two brothers.

Andy had retired from Caterpillar where he had worked for 43 years and was an inspector in the East Peoria facilities.

An Army veteran of World War II, Andy had served in France, England and Manila. During his time of service he walked usually 3 to 4 miles every day.

Andy was a member of St. Patrick’s Catholic Church and also a member of Knights of Columbus, Father John Menco #6707 and was a 4th degree Knight.

A funeral mass will be celebrated for Andy on Monday at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church at 10 a.m. with Father Joseph Donton officiating. Burial will follow in Hillcrest Memory Gardens, south of Washington. Visitation will be on Sunday from 2 to 4 p.m. at the Mason-White Funeral Home and one hour prior to services at the church.

Memorials may be made to either his church or the Parkinson’s Foundation.
