Obituary

Lt. Normand R. Vachon, 70, of Manchester died June 2, 2010 at his residence surrounded by his loving family.
He was born in Manchester on January 31, 1940, the son of Lawrence and Elizabeth (Lussier) Vachon. He was educated in the local parochial school system and served in the NH Army National Guard for 10 years prior to being honorably discharged with the rank of staff sergeant.
Normand was a member of the City of Manchester Fire Department from 1968 to 1989 where he rose to the rank of lieutenant. While working for the fire department, he also held employment with Gosselin’s Hardware Store and Moreau’s. Since retirement from the department, Norm worked as a licensed real estate agent with Coldwell Banker in Manchester and most recently at Shaw’s Supermarket.
He was a life member of the Alpine Club and a member of the Legion of One Thousand Men of the Monastery of the Precious Blood. He enjoyed hunting, ice fishing, baseball, visiting Foxwoods with his wife, and playing golf in numerous local fundraising tournaments.
He was predeceased by his first wife Constance Vachon in 1964 and his brother Philip Vachon earlier this year.
Family members include his wife of 44 years, Therese “Terry” (Gamache) Vachon of Manchester; one daughter, Christine Silva and her husband Scott of Weare; one son, Normand D. Vachon and his wife Lynn of Manchester; five grandchildren, Lindsey Vachon, Alycia Silva, Alexa Silva, Jocelin Vachon who is also his Goddaughter, and Noah Vachon; six sisters, Yvette Beland and her husband Gerard, Dolores “Dolly” Lynch and her husband Robert, Pauline Vachon and her husband Michael Beebe, Diane Soucy and her husband Paul, Lorraine Daly and her husband Robert, Denise McMahon and her husband Raymond; one sister-in-law, Muriel Vachon; many nephews, nieces, cousins, and close friends.
A Mass of Christian burial was celebrated on Tuesday, June 8, 2010 in St. Peter Church, Auburn. Burial with military honors followed in Mt. Calvary Cemetery, Manchester.
