WORCESTER___Richard P. Janitis, Sr., 63, of Worcester died Monday, June 1, in UMassMemorial Hospital, 55 Lake Avenue. He leaves two sisters, Barbara Janitis of Falls Church, VA and Joyce Persson of Worcester; his former wife, Barbara (Duffy) Janitis of Worcester; two nephews, Joshua Persson and his wife, Ingrid Lofgren of Warwick, RI; Jeffrey Persson and his wife, Stephanie of Hampton, VA and their children, Brodie and Lilyanna. He is predeceased by a son, Richard P. Janitis, Jr. Mr. Janitis was born in Worcester a son of Benjamin and Veronica (Glatki) Janitis and lived here all of his life.
Mr. Janitis worked as a cook for many years at the College of the Holy Cross prior to retiring. He was a member of the American Legion-Vernon Hill Post. Richard was an avid New England sports fan following the Red Sox, Celtics and Patriots. He was a champion dart player. He was a proud US Army Veteran serving as an Executive Chef during the Vietnam War. Richard graduated from the former Commerce High School. He was a member of Our Lady of Czestochowa Church.
The funeral will be held on Saturday, June 5, from HENRY-DIRSA FUNERAL HOME, 33 Ward St., with a Mass at 10:00 a.m. in Our Lady of Czestochowa Church, 34 Ward St. Burial will be in Notre Dame Cemetery. Calling hours in the funeral home will be Friday, June 4, from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made to a charity of the donor’s choice.
