Velma Elizabeth Crum Jones, 90, of Omega went to her new home on Wednesday, June 2, 2010. Mrs. Jones passed away at Tift Regional Medical Center. Her homegoing celebration will be Friday, June 4, 2010, at 11:00 a.m. in the Chapel of Bowen-Donaldson Home for Funerals. Interment will follow at Oak Ridge Cemetery. Rev. Walter Powell and Rev. Roger Mays will officiate. Nephews will serve as pallbearers. The family will receive friends on Thursday, June 3, 2010, from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. in the Chapel of Bowen-Donaldson Home for Funerals.
Mrs. Jones was born on July 9, 1919 in Tift County and was the daughter of Benjamin Franklin Crum and Eva Elizabeth Mims Crum, both deceased. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Thomas Harrison Jones, Sr.; two brothers, Frank Crum and Ralph Mathew Crum; and four sisters, Martha Elois Booth, Bernice Margaret Griffin, Hazel Amanda Myers and Mary Virginia Flanigan. She was a homemaker, mom, grandmother, great grandmother and the best cook in the whole world. She taught ceramics for many years and was loved by all who met her. She attended Omega High School and was of the Baptist faith.
Mrs. Jones is survived by two sons and daughters-in-law, Thomas “Tommy” Jr. and Dorothy Jones of Omega and Roy L. and Linda Jones of Omega; Mike Hunt, who she raised like a son and his wife, Debbie, of Ty Ty; five grandchildren and their spouses, Monica and Chris Dotson, Tom and Mindy Jones, Josh and Keili Jones, Allison and Jess Goodman and Beth and Travis Purvis; three great grandchildren, Christian Dotson, Alyssa Dotson and Andrue Jones; one sister, Naomi Irene Rabun of Augusta; two sisters-in-law, Myrtle Jones of Ashburn and Virginia Jones of Tifton; a special aunt, Mattie Hester of Powder Springs; her sitter, Ann Jones; and many nieces, nephews and friends.
