Obituary

METHUEN Herbert W. Nicholson 82 died Friday May 28, 2010 at Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston after a brief illness.

Born and educated in Methuen son of William and Evelyn (Ritter) Nicholson he was a graduate of the Edward F. Searles High School. During World War II and the Korean War he served in the United States Army. In Korea Herbert was given promotion to Corporal serving with Co. 1. 32nd Infantry, Seventh Division. He received the Purple Heart for being wounded by machine gun fire, also the infantryman’s combat medal, presidential unit citation and was honorably discharged from service and was a member of the American Legion and the V.F.W.. He was a correctional officer with the Essex County Sheriffs Department before retiring. He was and avid fisherman and gardener, devoted to his family especially to his grandchildren and their activities.

He leaves his wife of 59 years Theresa M. (Pare) Nicholson of Methuen, MA. Children Bruce W. Nicholson and his wife Deborah also of Methuen, Gayle A. Grella and her husband Albert of Windham, NH, Lynne E. Denny and her companion Randy Ferrence of Lisbon Falls, ME and Pamela A. Nicholson of Haverhill, MA.
Grandchildren Tarrah, Shawn, Michael, Monica, Kortnee, Amanda and Joshua.
One great-granddaughter Madyson and several nieces and nephews.
Herbert was pre-deceased by his granddaughter Lauren A. Grella.

ARRANGEMENTS: Family and friends may call on Tuesday from 3:00p.m. – 7:00p.m. at the Kenneth H. Pollard Funeral Home, Inc., 233 Lawrence Street Methuen, MA 01844. Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Wednesday at 10:00a.m. at St. Monica’s Church in Methuen. Entombment will follow in St. Mary Mausoleum in Lawrence, MA.
