Obituary

Ralph O. “Otie” Forbes, 84, a longtime resident of Stoughton, died at Copley at Stoughton on Thursday, May 27. Son of the late Durham and Ruth (Spooner) Forbes, he was born in West Bridgewater and raised in Easton. He was a graduate of Oliver Ames High School, Class of 1944. He was a resident of Stoughton since 1944. Mr. Forbes was a Private 1st Class in the U.S. Army and a Veteran of World War II, where he was awarded the Croix de Guerre Medal in France. He was the paymaster at Polaroid in Waltham, where he worked for 27 years before retiring in 1986. He also worked at Shawmut Mills in Stoughton. Mr. Forbes was a Past Commander of the American Legion Post 89 and a member of the VFW Post 1645 both in Stoughton. He was also a member of the Oddfellows Lodge in Stoughton. In his free time he enjoyed reading.
Mr. Forbes was the husband of Adelaide Wahl of Stoughton. He was the brother of John A. Forbes and his wife Virginia of S. Walpole, Ruth E. Grono and her husband Thomas of Hanover and the late Gertrude D. Schrader and David W. Forbes. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
Funeral Service will be held from the Farley Funeral Home, 358 Park St. (Rt.27) Stoughton on Wednesday, June 2 at 10 AM. Visiting Hours Tuesday 4-7 PM. Burial will take place at Village Cemetery in North Easton. In lieu of flowers, donations in Otie’s name may be made to Make-A-Wish Foundation, 1 Bulfinch Place, Boston, MA 02114.
