Obituary

Whitman – Gregory M. Kostas 50, a life long resident of Whitman died Wednesday May 26 in his home and surrounded by his loving family after a brave battle with cancer. He was the beloved husband of Kathryn G. (Bailey) Kostas.

He was a graduate of Whitman-Hanson High School Class of 1977 and worked as an inside sales representative for AVAD.

Greg was an avid bodybuilder and power lifter and served as the Massachusetts State Chairman for USA Power lifting, and for over thirty years ran countless local meets.

He was also involved in the Special Olympics and often had Special Olympians compete in his contests; Greg felt they exemplified the true definition of “sportsmanship”. He also devoted over 12 years to working with the special needs children at the Cardinal Cushing School and Training Center in Hanover.

In addition to his beloved wife Kathy he is survived by his mother Dorothea (Milonas) Kostas of Falmouth, his father Dean Vatsos of Greece, his loving children Stephanie Kostas of Whitman, Michael Kostas and his wife Lori of Whitman, Brian Kostas and his fiancée Michelle Pierce of Whitman, his brother Steve Kostas and his wife Theresa of Falmouth, and his grandchildren Aidan and Shane. He was the father of the late Shane Kostas.

His funeral will be held Saturday May 29 at 10 AM in the Blanchard Funeral Chapel Plymouth Street (Rt. 58 at the rotary) Whitman. Burial will follow in the Colebrook Cemetery, Whitman. Visiting hours will be held Friday May 28 from 4-8 PM. Donations in his name may be made Dana Faber Cancer Institute 10 Brookline Place West, Brookline, MA 02445.
