Evelyn E. (Higgins) Fletcher, 89, of Brockton, died May 21, 2010 at Queen Anne Nursing Home in Hingham. She was the wife of the late Gerald C. Fletcher. Born and raised in New Bedford, Evelyn was the daughter of the late Frederick and Lillian (LaFontaine) Higgins and was a graduate of New Bedford High School. Evelyn had been a resident of Brockton since 1955 and had been employed by the Brockton School System as a Library Aid for many years. She also volunteered in the East Bridgewater School system as a reader to the children. A longtime communicant of St. John’s Church in E. Bridgewater, she was also a member of the Ladies Guild. She enjoyed traveling, reading and spending time with her family.
She is survived by her children Peter Fletcher of Florida, Marsha Kurkjian of Stoughton and Deborah Fitzgerald and her husband James of Hanover; eight grandchildren and three great grandchildren. She was the sister of the late Frederick Higgins and mother in law of the late Barbara Fletcher.
Funeral from the Conley Funeral Home, 138 Belmont Street (Rte 123) Brockton, Tuesday at 8am. Funeral Mass in Our Lady of Lourdes Church at 9am. Burial in Calvary Cemetery.
