Obituary

Shrewsbury- Raminta (Mantautas) Molis, 74, a former math professor and long time resident of Shrewsbury, died Oct. 28 at home, after a long illness.

Mrs. Peter Molis was born in Kaunas, Lithuania of Dec. 15, 1929, daughter of Sofija (Putvyte) Mantautas and Alexansdras Mantautas and immigrated to the United States in 1947. She became a naturalized American citizen in 1954.

She graduated from Newton College of the Sacred Heart with a bachelor’s degree in mathematics and earned her master’s degree in mathematics from Boston College. Mrs. Molis first taught at Classical High School in Worcester, from 1961 to 1971 and then moved on to teach at Anna Maria College, Paxton, where she was the dean of the Mathematics department from 1971 until 1982.

Mrs. Molis was an active member of the Lithuanian Scouts Association and served as Scoutmaster for the Neringos Tuntas in Worcester from 1964 to 1968 and again in 1970 to 1972. She was also a member of the Boy Scouts of America and eartned her Wood Badge in 1984. She belonged to the Siauliai Organization (The Lithuanian National Guard), founded by her grandfather, Vladas Putvis, in Lithuania. Mrs. Molis was a longtime parishioner of St. Casimir Church, Worcester.

She leaves her husband of 48 years, Peter P. Molis of Shrewsbury; two daughters, Rima E. Sutton of Strafford, NH and Donna M. Hoffman of Saverna Park, MD; a brother, Vaidevutis A. Mantautas of West Hartford, CT; four grandchildren.

The funeral will be held Saturday, Nov. 1, from HENRY-DIRSA FUNERAL HOME, 33 Ward St., Worcester, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 9 a.m. in St. Casimir Church, 41 Providence St., Worcester. Burial will follow in Gate of Heaven Cemetery, Putnam, CT. Calling hours are from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Friday, Oct. 31, in the funeral home. A reception will follow services at Maironis Park, Shrewsbury, starting 12 p.m., serving lunch at 1 p.m.
