Obituary

VERICKER, William A. age 85 of Paramus, NJ died Friday May 14, 2010. Beloved husband of the late Frances T. (nee: Kelly). Devoted father of William T. of Riverdale, NY – Daniel J. of Bergenfield, NJ – Kevin F. of North Bay Village, FL –Stephen G. of Cathedral City, CA – Chris E. and his wife Nada of Franklin, MA, and predeceased by their son Thomas in 1994. Dear brother of Bernadette Feeney of Queens, NY. Loving grandfather of Michael, David, Mathew,Madalaine, Caroline and Carly. Also survived by numerous nieces and nephews, and many friends. Bill was a 46 year resident of New Milford, NJ and also an active parishioner of Sacred Heart Church in Haworth, NJ where he was active in feeding the homeless at Eva’s Kitchen. A passionate follower of the NJ Devils, he always pulled for the underdog. A member of the Greatest Generation, Bill was born in Manhattan to Josephine and John Vericker on August 29, 1924. Raised during the Great Depression, he graduated from St. Agnes High School before being drafted in the US Navy during WWII. Stationed on the USS Hyades, Bill was a survivor of a September 1944 hurricane which sank the USS Warrington in the Carribean. He went on to serve in the Pacific Theater. After the war, Bill graduated from St. John’s University. He also met and married the love of his life, Frances. They were married for 59 years before her death on December 19, 2008. Bill joined the Federal Bureau of Investigation where he served with distinction from 1952 to 1975. He was stationed in Milwaukee then New York. He became an expert on organized crime; heading the New York’s office Informant Division and was personally commended for his work by United States Attorney General Robert F. Kennedy. After retiring from the FBI, Bill became the New York State Deputy Chief Investigator for Medicare Fraud before retiring in 1988. A wonderful man who was loved, admired and respected by all who knew him, he will be greatly missed. A remarkable man who served his country, family and God with valor and distinction, the world was made a better place by his presence. Funeral arrangements entrusted to Volk Leber Funeral Home – 268 Kinderkamack Rd. Oradell, NJ. Funeral service at 9AM on Monday at Volk Leber, then to Sacred Heart RCC in Haworth, NJ with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10AM with internment to follow at George Washington Memorial Park Cemetery – Paramus, NJ. Visitation will be this Sunday 2-4 and 7-9PM. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Franciscan Friars of Graymoor – Garrison, NY 10524.
