Obituary

OXFORD__Adelard G. Morin Sr., 83, of 5 Patricia Dr., a longtime funeral director, died Monday, Oct. 27, in St. Vincent Hospital, Worcester, after being stricken ill at home.

He leaves his wife of 22 years, Therese M. (Hebert) Guillmette Morin; three sons, Ronald M. Morin of Cambridge, Joseph A. Morin of Worcester, and Adelard G. “Jay” Morin Jr. of Worcester; three daughters, Constance M., wife of James G. Allen of Montville, Maine, Celeste A. Morin, and her companion, Marcelle Leit of Phoenix, Arizona, and Claire I. Morin, wife of William Bundeff of Cumberland, Rhode Island; two sisters, Theresa Lawson of Auburn and Rita Scott of New Jersey; 6 grandchildren; a great grandchild; nephews and nieces. His first wife, Isabelle C. (Auger) Morin, died in 1979. A granddaughter, Candace M. (Allen) Scola, died in 2002. Five brothers and four sisters also predeceased him. He was born in East Millbury, son of Adelard P. and Corinne (Mousseau) Morin and graduated from the former Commerce High School, Worcester in 1940 and from the New England Institute of Applied Arts and Sciences in 1949. He was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II.

Mr. Morin, a longtime funeral director, was President and Treasurer of Morin Funeral Home, now Dirsa-Morin Funeral Home, in Worcester from 1958 when he purchased the Omer P. Lachapelle Funeral Home until retiring in 1986.

He was a member of the National, Massachusetts and Great Worcester Funeral Directors Associations. He was a former board director of the Massachusetts Funeral Directors Association, the Worcester Board of Public Welfare and the Advisory Board of Friendly House. He was a member of Grafton Hill Post 323 American Legion, where he was a service officer for over 30 years. He was a member of Pope John XXIII Knights of Columbus and was a 4th degree member of Bishop O’Reilly Assembly Knights of Columbus. He was a member of St. Joseph's Parish, Worccester, its St. Vincent de Paul Society and its former League of the Sacred Heart.

The funeral will be held Saturday, Nov. 1, from DIRSA-MORIN FUNERAL HOME, 298 Grafton St., Worcester, with a Mass at 11 a.m. in St. Joseph’s Church, 35 Hamilton St., Worcester. Burial with Military Honors will be in Notre Dame Cemetery, Worcester. Calling hours are from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 30, AND Friday, Oct. 31, in the funeral home.
