Martinez, GA – Beverley Annette Turner, died at Elmcroft Assisted Living on May 8, 2010.
Born June 10, 1923, in Greenville, SC, she was second child and only daughter of G. M. and Lila Ellison Turner. In her long and useful life, she had a number of occupations, from Claim Adjuster to Administrative Assistant, but her most cherished and longest-held position was that of English teacher, a calling to which she devoted most her life. She taught for a number of years in the Hephzibah Schools, and was a two - time recipient of the Georgia State Chamber of Commerce Star Teacher Award. She was a graduate of Parker High School, class of 1940 and of Winthrop College, class of 1944, where she received a B.A. Degree in English.
Beverley was preceded in death by her parents, and two brothers, G. Maurice Turner of Dillon, SC and Calhoun H. Turner of Greenville, SC. She is survived by one brother: Ellison Turner of St. Simons Island, GA., Marguerite Phillips Turner, the widow of G. Maurice; numerous nieces and nephews as well as a host of students whose lives she changed through her teaching.
The family are especially grateful to the staff and care-givers of Elmcroft Assisted Living and of Odyssey Hospice and Rest Care-givers, all of whom made her declining years rewarding.
Burial will be Saturday, May 15, 2010 at 2:00 p.m. at Antioch United Methodist Church Cemetery in Pickens County, S.C. with The Reverend Father Lawrence Holcombe officiating. The family will receive friends Thursday evening from 4:00 until 6:00 at Thomas Poteet & Son.
