Charles L. “Charlie” Jones, 74 of Fitzgerald, Georgia, died Monday, May 10, 2010 at his residence.
Graveside services will be held 4 P.M., Thursday, May 13, 2010 at Evergreen Cemetery with Rev. Harris Johnson officiating. Visitation will be held from 7 until 9 Wednesday evening at the funeral home in Fitzgerald.
Mr. Jones was born May 24, 1935 in Ben Hill County to the late Wallace L. and Ina Britt Jones. He retired in 1979 from Rainbow Irrigation after 20 years of service. Mr. Jones farmed and was a former employee of Fitzgerald Water, Light & Bond, St. Lawrence Seaway and the Niagara Falls Power Project.
Mr. Jones is survived by his wife of 57 years: Myra Latham Jones of Fitzgerald; children: Michael (Paula) Jones of Wilcox County, Delane (Gerald) Brewer of Fitzgerald, Anissa Jones of Tifton and Kimberly (Eric) Trevelyan of Irwin County and Jess (Jennifer) Brantley of Irwin County; 12 grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren; brothers: J.W. Jones of Oglethorpe and Carl (Beatrice) Jones of Fitzgerald as well as several nieces and nephews. Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, LeRoy Jones and a sister, Betty Lou Jones.
