Obituary


Quentin W. Yanuss, 92, of Whitman, died Wednesday May 4th in the Colony House Nursing & Rehabilitation Center in Abington after a period of failing health, He was the beloved husband of 63 years to Josephine M. (Burns) Yanuss. Quentin passed away on their 63rd wedding anniversary.

In addition to his wife he is survived by his children, Ellen Heard of New York, William Yanuss and his wife Marcia of Washington, Susan DaSilva and her husband John, of Whitman, Anne Goehring and her husband Michael of California, and Jean Jacob and her husband Ralph of Whitman; also 13 grandchildren, 6 great grandchildren and the 7th one on the way, many nieces and nephews.

He was born in Stoughton, son of the late Anthony and Helen (Iwaskiewicz) Yanuss.

Quent lived the fullest of lives, dedicated to family, community and country. Recently honored as Whitman’s Citizen of the Year, he will be remembered by all for his courage and strength, unyielding commitment to honor and service and love of family

Quentin has been a resident of Whitman since 1924.He worked for the Commonwealth Shoe for 23 years, Knapp Shoe for 22 years as a stitching room foreman and he also worked for Coburn Wilbert Vault for a short time.

Quentin went to Burdett College, before joining the United States Marines, he served as a Sergeant during WWII, Aviation Temporary and participated as a member of Unit 323, Okinawa-Death Rattlers, during the finial decisive battle in the pacific, the battle of Okinawa. He has held nearly every position in the Whitman VFW Post 697 and has made it one of the most recognizable charitable organizations in the area.
At times vocal, definitely opinionated, exhaustively dedicated Quent lived his life by his beloved Marine Corps motto of Semper Fidelis, Latin for Always Faithful.


His services will be held on Monday May 10th at 9:15AM from the Blanchard Funeral Chapel Plymouth Street (Rt. 58 at the rotary) Whitman, followed by a funeral mass at 10:00AM, in the Holy Ghost Church, Whitman, burial will follow in the St. James Cemetery Whitman. Visitation will be on Sunday May 9th from 2-4 & 6-8.Donations may be made in his name to the Whitman VFW Post 697, Essex St.-, Whitman, MA 02382 and to the colony house Nursing & Rehab, 277 Washington St., Abington, MA .02351
