Clara Tyson Payton, 84, of Ocilla, Georgia died Monday, May 3, 2010 at the Irwin County Hospital in Ocilla.
Funeral services will be held 4 PM Thursday, May 6 at the Paulk Funeral Home Chapel in Fitzgerald with Rev. Dewain Joiner and Rev. Clayton Dowd officiating. Interment will follow in Irwinville Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6-8 Wednesday evening at the funeral home in Fitzgerald.
Mrs. Payton was born December 3, 1925 in Berrien County to the late Lory M. and Thelma Rutherford Tyson. She lived in the community most of her life. Mrs. Payton was a former employee of Fitzgerald Underwear and she sat with the elderly. She attended the Fitzgerald Church of God and the Ocilla Church of God.
Mrs. Payton is survived by her sons and daughters-in-law: Charles “Donnie” & Nancy Payton of Jacksonville, FL, Thomas “Tommy” & Mary Payton of Fitzgerald and John David & Anita Payton of Middleburg, FL; 8 grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren; sister: Evelyn Tyson Morris of Fitzgerald. Along with her parents, she was preceded in death by her husbands, George Lloyd Payton and J.A. Turner, an infant daughter, a daughter, Mary Lena Payton a son, Billy Payton and a grandson, Lloyd Payton.
