Watkins Glen, NY - Barbara A. (Philpott) Melanson, age 74, died Saturday, May 1, in Skchuyler Hospital, Watkins Glen, NY following a lengthy illness. She was born July 11, 1935, in Beaumont, CA, a daughter of the late Joseph and Madeline (Carpenter) Philpott. She lived in Milford, MA, the greater part of her life. Barbara retired in 2000 from Worcester Federal Court system after eighteen years as a US Bankruptcy Court Clerk. She was an avid sports fan and history buff.
She is survived by a son and daughter-in-law; Bruce Melanson and his wife Debra of Montour Falls, NY, a daughter; Karen Mitchell of Hopedale, MA, , a sister and brother-in-law Janice (Philpott) Lockhart and her husband Arthur of Tewksbury, a brother; Joseph H. Philpott Jr. of Tewksbury, five grandchildren; Scott Mitchell and Richard Mitchell both of Hopedale, Steven Melanson of Montour Falls, NY, Joseph (Katie) Melanson of Elmire, NY, Michelle Melanson of Montour Falls, NY, one great granddaughter; Samantha Melanson, and nieces and nephews.
She was the former wife of Edward C. Melanson of Hernando, FL.
Her Funeral Service was held Friday, May 7, in the funeral home. Burial followed at Blue Hills Cemetery in Braintree, MA. Memorial donations to the American Cancer Society, 30 Speen St., Framingham, MA 01701, will be appreciated.
